Autarky v5

Version 5 brings some big changes. The idea is simple: you have your own little server at home. It's small, quiet and uses very little power. This little server holds your website(s), your files and your data instead of a big tech company's servers. It lets you host your own digital presence and truly own it.

What's new in v5 is that your little server can connect to the little servers of friends and people you trust. Together they help each other out in various ways. A friend's server can, for example, give you some of its space for backups, so your data is safe at home and also at a friend's place. If your server breaks, you set up a new one and get everything back from your friends. You return the favour by keeping their backups.

There's no company in the middle, no big tech infrastructure and no monthly subscription. It's simply a direct connection from your own hardware to your friends' servers: people looking after each other's data. Backups are one of the things these servers can do for each other, and more services will follow.

This website and others are running on Autarky v5 right now. Another step forward in digital self-sufficiency and ownership.
