Life Calendar

I wanted to create a way to reflect on my life so far—tracking how much I've traveled, worked, and stayed in one place, and mapping out the different phases of my journey. So, I designed this life calendar, which shows every day of your life. It's perfect for hanging in your room and marking important life events.

This progressive web app works offline and allows you to download a personalized calendar based on your birthdate. It's designed for high-quality printing (A1 size, 300dpi) and is completely free, offering a clear view of your lifetime at a glance.

Simple webshop

A custom webshop created specifically for the use and needs of plant nursery De Verwildering. It minimises technical friction for the client by utilising the existing Google Sheet for managing plants and products, eliminating the need for new technology adaptations on their end. The design features a calm and light aesthetic while effectively conveying the needed information. Currently, the website is not locally hosted, but there are plans for that in the future.

butterflies

The Butterfly Generator is a creative code-only (no images) experiment that uses JavaScript and HTML5 Canvas to dynamically create butterfly images. With this generator I explored a more artistic and painting-like representation of butterflies. Through algorithmic manipulations and controlled randomness it is ensured no two butterflies are alike.

Autarky

Autarky enables digital independence through a self hosted digital platform on local hardware. The word autarky is from the Greek: αὐτάρκεια, which means "self-sufficiency" (derived from αὐτο-, "self", and ἀρκέω, "to suffice").

Autarky is a good match with communities that are already integrating self-sufficiency in different areas. It's main goal is to augment and support local community life. The hardware is preferably located within the boundaries of the community. It consumes little power and could run off solar panels, making it an ideal option for remote and or temporary communities. Even without access to the internet Autarky will work locally and stay functional.

community web application

A web application tailored for communities that augments real life communication between it's members. The application aims to support the horizontal organisation. It does so by providing transparency into the different aspects of the community. It is giving the members the needed insight to act more independently. The app pushes and promotes for openness and transparency towards the outside world. But remains in touch with what feels right for all members. The first version is being developed in collaboration with a community.

public events list

With the expansion of the Mier collective came the need to promote events more efficiently. Many members make up Mier and they all have their own events to spread to the public. A widget was created that lists all public events from the entire Mier collective. This enabled every member to promote on their own website all the events from the entire collective, bringing forth the network, instead of one business or individual. The widget is also used by others like the "Voedselbossen Oost Brabant" network.

Banr Tool is an application that grew inside Proximity BBDO. The purpose of the app is to convert animated banners into static alternatives. Jeroen Bourgois came up with the first prototype.

I was keen on reworking the app, taking design and coding a step further. It's fun to concentrate all your design and development skills into a single purpose application. Progress is fast, you can polish the end result and motivation stays up.

The matching printed birth announcement cards
The matching printed birth announcement cards

With their new born baby, the parents decided to create a food forest. They did not send out the typical wish list with things to buy for the newborn. Instead they asked family and friends to contribute towards the food forest project. Through the website people could help realising Lise's forest by donating different shrubs and trees. Oh and they wanted pink, lots of pink!

Layered Space is a 3D engine that lets you positions layers into 3D space.

The initial idea was to create a script that would enhance matte paintings with a parallax effect. The script grew with each project and by time it was transformed into a real engine.

The engine let's you place visuals pixel perfect into 3D space. This way it lends perfectly to animate user interfaces or game elements which demand easy alignment, positioning and control.

The engine has been proven it self through various projects, whether it's a game or a highly interactive site. LayeredSpace is WIP and I might port the engine to html5/Javascript in the future.

Some of the features:

  • Places displayObjects into 3D space
  • Rendering through native 2D transformations
  • Multiple camera support
  • Depth of field and fog filters
  • Option to create your own screens, cameras, filters ...
  • Different z depth sorting modes
  • Various events and properties for more control
